Alternatives to Antibiotics: Why and How
National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Health and Medicine Division. 07/31/2017 This discussion paper focuses on how the use of antibiotic alternatives to promote health and reduce disease will decrease antibiotic use, thereby decreasing selective pressure for the emergence and transmission of antibiotic-resistance genes. It discusses numerous alternatives to antibiotics that exist for treating specific diseases, though none have consistently demonstrated efficacy comparable to antibiotic treatment. (Text)
