WeCroak – The App Reminds You that You ’ re Going to Die
Sociologists and others have widely observed that we are not confronted with death nearly as much as our ancestors. Consequently, we are not as prepared to deal with it.
Now, you can contemplate your mortality with the WeCroak App. (HT London Times; The Atlantic)
Each day, this App will send you five invitations at randomized times to stop and think about death. It’s based on a Bhutanese folk saying that to be a happy person one must contemplate death five times daily. The WeCroak invitations come at random times and at any moment just like death. When they come, you can open the app for a quote about death from a poet, philosopher, or notable thinker.
I am bullish on social media's prospects for improving public health. I did a few talks (here and here) on how "Facebook Can Help You Die Better." I did one short piece here, but need to write those up more.
