Efficacy of Point of Care Ultrasound in Identifying Complicated Febrile Urinary Tract Infections
Febrile urinary tract infections (UTIs) include a spectrum of diseases from uncomplicated pyelonephritis to urosepsis. The majority of febrile UTIs are treated with antibiotics alone, but there is a subset of complicated presentations necessitating imaging and emergent urologic intervention. The primary objective of our study was to determine the test characteristics of renal imaging, including CT and ultrasound (radiology and point of care) in determining which patients with febrile UTIs would require urological intervention, such as ureteral stents, nephrostomy tubes, or nephrectomy.
