The Model for End-stage Liver Diseases (MELD) is widely accepted for prioritizing candidates awaiting liver transplantation (LT). However, MELD scores do not reflect the severity of the nutritional or functional status of patients with cirrhosis.

Clinical Pathologic Mismatch in a TNF-α Inhibitor-Associated Drug Reaction J Drugs Dermatol. 2019 Aug 01;18(8):828-830 Authors: O’Brien KF, Maiman RE, DeWitt CA Abstract A 56-year-old Caucasian male with a history of chronic plaque psoriasis, primary sclerosing cholangitis status-post liver transplant on tacrolimus, and ulcerative colitis on infliximab developed a progressive erythematous eruption with associated fatigue, anorexia, myalgias, and arthralgias. On two separate occasions, his skin biopsy demonstrated a lichenoid interface dermatitis (LID). Despite multiple courses of oral predn...

Abstract BACKGROUND Early recurrence after liver transplantation (LT) is still a clinical problem. This multicenter study evaluated the Milan, Hangzhou, and AFP model-based criteria for prediction of early recurrence of HCC in patients with cirrhosis who had undergone LT. MATERIAL AND METHODS From the China Liver Transplant Registry (CLTR) database, we analyzed data of 589 HCC patients who had undergone LT between Jan 2015 and Jan 2019. Imaging data and AFP levels were evaluated immediately before LT. Recurrence and overall survival rates at 2 years were tested using the Kaplan-Meier estimate. The Milan criteria, ...

AbstractBackgroundThe Veterans Health Administration (VHA) provides care to the one of the largest cohorts of patients with advanced liver disease (ALD) in the USA.AimsWe performed a national survey to assess system-wide strengths and barriers to care for Veterans with ALD in this national integrated healthcare setting.MethodsA 52-item survey was developed to assess access and barriers to care in Veterans with ALD. The survey was distributed to all VHA medical centers in 2015. Results were analyzed using descriptive statistics.ResultsOne hundred and fifty-three sites responded to this survey. Multidisciplinary services wer...

Nontumoral PVT is present at liver transplantation in 5% to 26% of cirrhotic patients, and the prevalence of complex PVT as defined here (Grade 4 Yerdel, and Grade 3,4 Jamieson and Charco) has been reported in 0% to 2.2%.Adequate portal inflow is mandatory to ensure graft and patient survival after liver transplantation. With time, the proposed classifications of non-tumoral chronic PVT have evolved from being anatomy-based to also incorporating functional parameters. However, none of the currently proposed classifications are directed towards decision-making, as regards choice of inflow to the graft during LT and the outcomes there of.

Abstract High density lipoproteins (HDL) take up cholesterol from peripheral tissues via ABC transporters and deliver it to the liver via scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-B1), for its biliary excretion. Evidence from different mammals suggests that HDL metabolism may influence female reproduction. Indeed, HDL are the main lipoproteins in follicular fluid (FF) and their composition associates to preimplantation embryo quality. The origin of FF HDL is controversial: FF HDL are thought to derive from plasma via diffusion through the basal lamina of the follicle but their molecular structure is different from pla...

Abstract Stem cell therapy is a promising treatment for hepatopathy due to diabetes mellitus (DM); oral resveratrol treatment exhibits protective effects. We investigated whether protective effects could be produced in liver of diabetic rats receiving autologous adipose-derived stem cell transplantation (ADSC) plus oral resveratrol administration. Male rats were divided into four groups: sham group; streptozotocin induced DM group; DM + ADSC group, in which DM rats were treated with 106 stem cells/rat; and DM + R + ADSC group, in which DM rats were treated with ADSC and oral resveratrol. The DM group exhibite...
