[Local Application of Tranexamic Acid in Total Hip Arthroplasty Decreases Blood Loss and Consumption of Blood Transfusion].

CONCLUSIONS The local application of TXA is an effective and, simultaneously, safe method to reduce perioperative blood loss and consumption of blood transfusions and also to decrease the costs of hospital stay in the patients after THA. Another advantage of the local application is the need to administer one dose only, whereas at least two doses need to be administered intravenously in order to achieve the same effect. No significant complications were observed in the patients with TXA. According to the recent literature, it is therefore appropriate to include the local application of TXA among the recommended procedures for THA, as is the case in total knee arthroplasty. Key words: tranexamic acid, local application, blood loss, hidden blood loss, THA, total hip arthroplasty, complications. PMID: 28933328 [PubMed - in process]
