Clozapine-associated Aspiration Pneumonia: Case Series and Review of the Literature

While risk of medication-induced movement disorders is lower for most atypical antipsychotics compared to typical antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics are more commonly associated with weight gain and metabolic abnormalities. They are also associated with more serious and life-threatening conditions; in particular, clozapine has been linked to agranulocytosis, myocarditis, and gut dysmotility. Increasingly, an association has been established between clozapine and lower respiratory infection.
