[Correspondence] Helminths in organ transplantation

Pre-transplant screening for helminth infections, the object of the recent Review1 by Andrew J R Cooper and colleagues, is an area of uncertainty. One main problem is the scarce evidence supporting the recommendations, which are often based on expert opinion rather than on facts. Randomised controlled trials of available drugs can be difficult to implement in non-endemic areas because of the relatively low number of cases diagnosed, whereas in endemic areas such trials are limited by frequent co-infections and the risk of reinfection.
