The effects of Chinese medicines on cAMP/PKA signaling pathway in central nervous system dysfunction.

The effects of Chinese medicines on cAMP/PKA signaling pathway in central nervous system dysfunction. Brain Res Bull. 2017 Apr 21;: Authors: Li L, Fan X, Zhang XT, Yue SQ, Sun ZY, Zhu JQ, Zhang JH, Gao XM, Zhang H Abstract Neuropathological injury in adult mammal central nervous system (CNS) may cause axon disruption, neuronal death and produce lasting neurological deficits. Failure of axon regeneration is one of the major challenges for CNS function recovery. Recently, cAMP/PKA signaling pathway has been proven to be a critical regulator for neuronal regeneration, neuroplasticity and learning and memory ability. And previous studies have revealed the effects of Chinese medicines on prevention and treatment of CNS dysfunction medicated by cAMP/PKA signaling pathway partially. In this review, the authors discussed the current knowledge on the role of cAMP/PKA signaling pathway in neuronal regeneration and provided an overview of the Chinese medicines that may enable CNS function recovery via this signaling pathway.
