WHO's Regional Director launches National Immunization Week in Lebanon

H.E. the Minister of Public Health of Lebanon Ghasan Hasbani, WHO Regional Director Dr Mahmoud Fikri and Director-General of the Ministry of Health Dr Walid Ammar visit a vaccine storage warehouse in KarantinaBeirut, Lebanon, 10 April 2017 – WHO’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr Mahmoud Fikri and H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Mr Ghasan Hasbani today launched National Immunization Week in Lebanon. World Immunization Week is celebrated annually from 24 to 30 April by WHO and partners to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. Routine immunization is one of the most cost-effective health interventions to save millions of lives and reduce the prevalence of infectious diseases, especially among children. The main goal of this year’s campaign is to raise awareness of the critical importance of full immunization throughout life, and its role in achieving the 2030 targets of the Sustainable Development Goals.
