Anti-bacterial found to calm inflamed gut in mice

(Medical Xpress)—A team of researchers with the University or college of California has found that introducing a type of antimicrobial protein known as a microcin into the guts associated with mice with inflamed bowels triggered a reduction in the degree of inflammation. In their paper published in the journal Nature, the team describes their research of the use of the protein in rodents and their evidence that microcins intercede in the relationship between different types of bacteria in the gut.
