Radiation dose from dual energy CT applications

Dual energy CT has emerged as a topical scanning technique with advances in MDCT technologies which enable near simultaneous acquisition of scan data at two separate kV or energy levels. Major applications in kidney stone characterization, pulmonary CT angiography, gout evaluation and differentiation of blood and contrast media have been reported. Due to differences in acquisition techniques for dual energy CT between different vendor offerings, it is important to keep in mind that these variations have important implications on associated radiation doses.
