Publication date: Available online 9 July 2016 Source:Pediatria Polska Author(s): Agnieszka Stańko, Joanna Kwiatkowska, Jarosław Meyer-Szary Introduction Bland-White-Garland (BWG) syndrome is a rare congenital coronary artery abnormality in which left coronary artery origins from the pulmonary artery. BWG syndrome is associated with hypoperfusion of the left ventricle that results in myocardial ischemia, global left ventricular dysfunction and annular dilatation with varying degrees of mitral regurgitation. Mortality rate exceeds 90% in the first year of life if untreated. The long-term clinical outcome of surgical repair of BWG syndrome is good despite the initial presentation of heart failure in the majority of cases. The rate of early and late mortality is low compared with the natural history of the disease but remains a concern.
