In conclusion, pathological and molecular biological examinations revealed that an A/H1N1pdm09 infection-associated ARDS case in the post-pandemic season was not caused by direct alveolar epithelial damage due to viral infection, but rather by indirect damage of endothelial cells due to severe sepsis.
