Canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is dysregulated in patients with primary and secondary myelofibrosis

Activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is associated with malignant transformation, development of fibrosis and angiogenesis. We analyzed β-catenin mRNA expression in bone marrows of 29 patients with primary (PMF), four with secondary myelofibrosis (SMF) and 16 controls using qRT-PCR. Β-catenin expression is increased in both PMF and SMF and might potentiate anemia.
