Particles in the South Pacific
No particle therapy facility exists or is being constructed currently in Australia or New Zealand (ANZ). Both jurisdictions have a dual government-funded public health care system as well as a private system, with the majority of radiation therapy provided in the public sector. This is changing rapidly, with an increasing number of private facilities, and the race is now on to open the first proton therapy facility in the South Pacific. Tenders to establish a facility have not been sought by government, which has been the principal source of funding for radiation therapy until now.
