Florida Pertussis Outbreak Shows Vaccine Works -- But Not Well Enough
A pertussis outbreak sickening one in five mostly vaccinated students at a Florida daycare in 2013 reiterates two important messages when it comes to the whooping cough vaccine, say experts: getting vaccinated on time is more important than ever, and we need a better vaccine as soon as possible. The outbreak, described in a study in the CDC’s Emerging Infectious Disease journal, reports the first known outbreak of pertussis in a mostly vaccinated group of children in the U.S.
