Borrelia burgdorferi HtrA: evidence for twofold proteolysis of outer membrane protein p66

In this study, HtrA was found to degrade B. burgdorferi outer membrane protein p66 protein, as well as inhibit its transcription. In intact spirochetes, evidence is given for co‐localization of HtrA and p66 in membrane lipid rafts. Taken together, the data support a role for HtrA in the regulation of p66 expression.
