Covert contrast in velar fronting: An acoustic and ultrasound study.

This study used an ultrasound measure (Dorsum Excursion Index) and acoustic measures (VOT and spectral moments of the burst) to investigate overt and covert contrast between velar and alveolar stops in child speech. Participants were two children who produced a perceptually overt velar-alveolar contrast and two children who neutralised the contrast via velar fronting. Both acoustic and ultrasound measures revealed significant differences between perceptually distinct velar and alveolar targets. One child with velar fronting demonstrated covert contrast in one acoustic and one ultrasound measure; the other showed no evidence of contrast. Clinical implications are discussed in this article. Authors: Baldino G, Rossi UG, Di Gregorio S, Gori A Abstract Percutaneous endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair is nowadays considered a safe and effective procedure and has gained widespread globally acceptance. However, intraoperative persistent bleeding due to percutaneous access closure device failure can occur. Open conversion is first-line treatment to manage this complication. The fascia suture technique was introduced as an alternative to access closure device or as a solution to manage unsatisfactory hemostasis during percutaneous endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. In this article, we r...

ConclusionUsing this information, imaging protocols can be altered depending on the genotype of the tumor. Further understanding of the genetic alterations that underpin the development of GCTs is indicated as genotypic knowledge could be used to guide optimal imaging and management strategies.

Authors: Chung SR, Baek JH, Lee MK, Ahn Y, Choi YJ, Sung TY, Song DE, Kim TY, Lee JH Abstract OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for the evaluation of thyroid nodules is non-inferior to radiologists with different levels of experience. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with thyroid nodules with a decisive diagnosis of benign or malignant nodule were consecutively enrolled from November 2017 to September 2018. Three radiologists with different levels of experience (1 month, 4 years, and 7 years) in thyroid ultrasound (US) reviewed the thyroid US with and without using the CAD s...
