Cardiogenic Shock and the Elderly: Many Questions, Few Answers

The recent American Heart Association (AHA) scientific statement “Cardiogenic Shock in Older Adults: A Focus on Age-Associated Risks and Approach to Management: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association” highlights a growing population: elderly patients with cardiogenic shock.1 The authors underscore the need for further investigation in mult iple areas, including the definition of “elderly”, the increasing number of these patients presenting with cardiogenic shock, and the limited information regarding treatment strategies and outcomes in this particular population.
