Treatment of Hemimasticatory Spasm and Facial Myokymia Associated with Hemifacial Atrophy and Localized Morphea with Botulinum Neurotoxin and Immunotherapy

Background: Hemimasticatory spasm (HMS) is a rare paroxysmal movement disorder characterized by the dysfunction of the motor branch of the trigeminal nerve affecting the muscles of mastication and culminating in a painful spasm of the masticatory muscles. HMS is associated with progressive hemifacial hemiatrophy (Parry-Romberg syndrome), and localized scleroderma (morphea).
