Support Group for Parkinson ’s Disease Patients in Chicagoland of African Ancestry

Parkinson's disease (PD) patients from the Black community comprise a smaller percentage of patients in subspecialty movement disorder clinics despite being located in geographic areas with a high population of Black individuals.[1] In addition, few studies have been conducted to understand the specific needs of Parkinson ’s disease (PD) patients from the Black community. However, it has been shown that there are potential health benefits to receiving and providing social support among older African Americans [2].
