Fear, Mobility, and Vitality: Outcomes from a Residential Functional Restoration Program for Veterans with Chronic Pain

It has been well-established that fear-avoidance pain behaviors have negative impacts on physical activity and quality of life in those with chronic pain. In the present study, we hypothesized pain-related fear, mobility, and vitality would significantly improve compared to baseline, after completing a 5-week residential functional restoration program (FRP) for Veterans with chronic pain. 144 Veterans with chronic pain [Mage=53.5 years (SD=10.87), 16.2% female, and 74.6% Caucasian] participated in a residential FRP within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
