Balancing benefits and potential harms of stock inhaler policies in schools

In this issue of Annals of Allergy, Asthma& Immunology, Hardy et al1 provide valuable insights into the feasibility and acceptability of common canister policies in schools. Schools with stock inhaler programs may be able to optimize point-of-care access to asthma rescue medications for both children and adults working in educational environments when needed while minimizing costs.2 The authors surveyed both school nurses and administrators, finding that less than 25% of those surveyed reported having stock inhaler programs with even lower adoption in more rural regions.
