Catatonia in youth with developmental disabilities: challenges in recognition and  management

We describe a 14-year-old boy with an intellectually disability and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in which clinicians did not diagnose catatonia until 1 year after the development of symptoms. Moreover, hesitations surrounding the correct treatment led to its delayed initiation. With this case report we aim to contribute to reduced reluctance and increased alertness in the treatment of catatonia in adolescents with developmental disorders.PMID:38380488
