Effect of duration of preoperative pain on outcomes of total temporomandibular joint replacement

The purpose of the study is to determine whether duration of preoperative pain affects outcomes of temporomandibular joint replacement (TMJR). Twenty-seven patients that underwent primary TMJR between 01/07/2020-31/10/2022 were assessed retrospectively for duration of preoperative pain, pre- and post-operative pain on visual analogue scale (VAS), pre- and post-operative range of motion (ROM), and postoperative quality of life. Surgical success was defined as postoperative pain ≤4 and either postoperative ROM≥30mm or net change (Δ) in ROM≥10mm.
