Will ChatGPT take over the manuscript review process?

Much has been written about the peer-review process in medical sciences. Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of THE LANCET, is often quoted with the statement that “the system of peer review is biased, unjust, unaccountable, incomplete, easily fixed, often insulting, usually ignorant, occasionally foolish, and frequently wrong”. Others agree that peer review is the “weakest link” in medical publishing1 and many claim “it does not work”.
