Cartootorial: Studies on desensitization using food oral immunotherapy (OIT) have shown benefit in children, but efficacy in adults remains uncertain. A 2017 meta-analysis showed no significant benefit in adults, but the adult population was too small for the authors to draw any firm conclusions in this cohort.1 The 2018 PALISADE trial on peanut OIT allowed 41 highly allergic adults to participate.2 They found no significant benefit in this population and provided no further analysis because their prespecified outcomes were limited to children.
