Inflammatory and molecular markers senescence in late-life neuropsychiatric disorders: from diagnosis to treatment

Mood disorders in older adults are common and disabling conditions associated with poor health outcomes, including cognitive impairment and multiple medical comorbidities. Recent evidence suggests that pro-inflammatory and molecular senescence burdens may represent mechanisms underlying the association between mood disorders and adverse outcomes in older adults. They can also help guide the development of interventions and identify individuals who could benefit from specific treatments. In this session, we will present novel data showing the association between neuroinflammation (measured by the levels of IL1b, IL1ra, TNF, and TNFR2 cytokines in the cerebrospinal fluid) and neurodegenerative changes in frontostriatal white matter fiber bundles in older adults with major depression.
