Congenital cytomegalovirus infection in small for gestational age fetuses – retrospective single-center cohort study

Objective: According to obstetric literature cytomegalovirus infection (CMV) is one of non-placental causes of intrauterine growth restriction.1 Historically it was estimated that 5 % of growth restricted fetuses had one of all TORCH infection, particularly CMV. Newer data state that only a few cases of CMV infections were diagnosed in the small for gestational age (SGA) population, however the group sizes were small.2-5
