Foley catheter for labour induction among patients with premature rapture of membranes – a randomized controlled trial

Background: Prelabor rupture of membranes (PROM) occurs in 8-10% of pregnancies. Studies have demonstrated that the risk of maternal sepsis and neonatal infection secondary to chorioamnionitis increases with duration of PROM. According to available researches early birth for PROM at term can be the intervention reducing maternal and neonatal infections. In case of an unfavourable cervix, the use of mechanical methods like Foley catheter for cervix ripening demonstrates good effectiveness and safety.
