9. Predictors of Diverse Mental Health Trajectories Following 4 Years of Treatment With Gender-Affirming Hormones

Transgender and nonbinary (TNB) youth are at disproportionately high risk for poor mental health outcomes, but less is known about diverse mental health trajectories within this population. Past research suggests that gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT; testosterone/estrogen) is associated with improvement in internalizing symptoms (depression, anxiety). However, there is substantial variability upon starting GAHT, and little research has examined whether GAHT is also associated with improvements in externalizing symptoms (disruptive/risk-taking behaviors).
