Five-year Trends In Outcomes Of Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Use In Non-ischemic Cardiogenic Shock

Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) has been used since 1960s. Randomized controlled trials demonstrated neither benefit nor harm with IABP use in cardiogenic shock complicating acute coronary syndrome (ACS-CS). However, the clinical trajectory of non-ischemic cardiogenic shock (NI-CS) differs significantly from ACS-CS. There has been increasing interest in the use of IABP to stabilize patients with NI-CS. We aimed to study trends in outcomes of IABP use in NI-CS.
