Biomarkers have to make sense
In this issue of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, Kraus and co-workers report that no more than eight serum protein markers are required to separate, on group levels, persons with radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA) from those free of radiographic OA (non-OA) in hands, hips, knees and spine. Sera from the knee OA cohort Foundation National Institutes of Health (FNIH; n = 596, Kellgren-Lawrence [KL] grade 1-3) were compared with sera from the non-OA multi-joint control cohort Johnston County Osteoarthritis Project (JoCoOA; n = 127, KL = 0).
