37. Evaluation of possible role of fluoride in the pathogenesis of Oral Submucous Fibrosis: a pilot study

We hypothesised that chewing gutkha/betel quid releases fluoride in to saliva, resulting in oral mucosal chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, leading to juxta epithelial inflammation and development oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). This pilot study assessed the potential role of fluoride in the pathophysiology of OSMF.
