A new sex-specific z-score for the appraisal of risk between sarcopenic obesity and all-cause mortality in a population-based study

Rationale: Sarcopenic obesity (SO) is a combination of low muscle function/mass and high-fat mass which are independently associated with mortality in older people. However, there is limited evidence linking SO to overall mortality. We aimed to determine the association between SO diagnosis criteria defined by cut-offs, as well as a new sex-specific SO z-score, and all-cause mortality in a large-scale population-based setting.
