Letter to the editor regarding “Predictors for failure after surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis: a prospective observational study” by Alhaug et al.

We read the article by Alhaug et al. [1] in the February issue of the journal with great interest. The authors conducted a prospective observational study on predictors of failed surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS), using data from the Norwegian registry for spine surgery (NORspine) between 2007 and 2017. The study utilized 11,873 participants, all of whom underwent lumbar decompression surgeries. The authors reported several predictors for negative postsurgical outcomes, including advanced age, back pain persisting for over 12 months, and the presence of previous back surgeries.
