Comment on: The impact of metabolic surgery on natural conception rates in women with infertility, obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome: a retrospective study

Infertility is a major problem affecting 1 in 5 women [1], and contributes to poor emotional and psychological well-being. Unfortunately, women with obesity are disproportionally affected by infertility and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS cause menstrual irregularities, hormonal imbalances, and anovulation. Estimates indicate that as many as 50-60% of patients with PCOS also suffer from overweight status or obesity. While a goal of 5% weight loss is thought to improve PCOS features, low retention rates for structured lifestyle modification programs and inability to keep excess weight off long term are unfortunately common.
