The East Asian –Specific Risk Genes in Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous developmental disorder defined by deficits in social interaction or communication with restricted patterns of behaviors or interests. Previous reports have suggested that ASD has a strong genetic component, as shown by a higher concordance rate in monozygotic than dizygotic twins. Whole-genome sequencing or whole-exome sequencing (WES) has identified numerous rare inherited or de novo variants in ASD. Subsequent analyses, such as molecular pathway analysis, have uncovered that genes linked to synaptic function are important in the pathophysiology of ASD.
