Is hip joint range of motion associated with bony morphology in elite male Australian Football League draftees?

Introduction: Cam and/or pincer morphology has been proposed to play a key role in the development of hip-related pain and early hip OA in football players. There is currently no clinical measure to predict cam or pincer morphology, making identification of bony morphology reliant on imaging. Being able to identify bony morphology through clinical testing could reduce the need for imaging in young athletes and enable early detection which may prevent these players from developing symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between hip joint range of motion (ROM) and bony morphology (cam and pincer morphology) in young adult male elite Australian football players.
