It ’s Time to Get a Wiggle on and Improve Automated External Defibrillator Signage Across the Nation

One in every 1,000 Australians will experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest every year [1]. Successful resuscitation and patient survival in this time-sensitive and life-threatening emergency is heavily dependent on time to cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation. Defibrillation is achieved with an automated electronic defibrillator (AED), a piece of lifesaving equipment. When used by a bystander within the first 3 –5 minutes of a cardiac arrest, survival rates can be as high as 75% [2].
