Comment on: Perceptions of bariatric surgery in patients with type 2 diabetes—data from a self-administered questionnaire
Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are closely linked [1]. The majority of patients with T2D are overweight or have obesity, and obesity is a major risk factor for T2D, diabetes-related micro- and macrovascular complications, and other associated conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [1]. As a result, it is not surprising that weight loss has a major favorable impact on a wide range of diabetes-related outcomes from improvement in glycemic control to T2D remission to reduction of the burden of complications and improved quality of life and survival [1,2].
