Vagus Nerve Stimulation in refractory idiopathic generalised epilepsy: An Irish retrospective observational study

Idiopathic generalised epilepsies (IGE; also called genetic generalised epilepsies) comprise four distinct electroclinical syndromes: juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME), childhood absence epilepsy (CAE), juvenile absence epilepsy (JAE), and epilepsy with generalised tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) alone [1,2]. Significant overlap exists between the different IGE syndromes, in particular between CAE and JAE [3], and patients may evolve from one IGE syndrome to another, for example, CAE to JME in adulthood [2].
