Relationship of NLRP3 Inflammasome with Oral Health

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe aim of this review is whether the NLRP3 inflammasome is associated with oral health and to understand whether the biology of the NLRP3 inflammasome is for the prevention of oral inflammatory and immunological disorders.Recent FindingsAccording to the studies, understanding the biology of the NLRP3 inflammasome is essential for the treatment and prevention of oral inflammatory and immunological disorders. It has been observed that the pathways of chronic inflammatory diseases are similar both in oral and systemic diseases. Recent investigations have demonstrated that inflammasomes play important roles in osteogenesis and bone homeostasis. Other findings showed that NLRP3 controls osteoclast differentiation to control bone resorption in periodontitis. Recent research has shown that the immune response of the host is restricted by this controlled antigen-specific T-cell immunosuppressive function, which supports the persistence of periodontal infection.SummaryIn this review, we summarized for the first time the most recent research on the role of inflammation-related cytokines and NLRP3 in oral health. Understanding the role of inflammasomes in oral health could lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies for these conditions.
