Trust Still Matters

For over two decades the Gallup Organization (Gallup's annual Most Honest and Ethical Professions survey) identified nursing as the most trusted profession, higher than physicians, pharmacists, high school teachers, clergy, and judges (Brenan,  2023). While these results for our profession are compelling, there is also evidence that trust overall in the health care profession has declined (Baker, 2020; Huang et al., 2018). But why? Are patients and families simply less trusting of health care professionals in general? Are consumer exp eriences in health care simply more negative?
