The importance of food in studying economic hardship and well-being: Does food insecurity mediate the associations between income and stress and well-being in a UK representative sample?

ConclusionOur results add to a growing body of evidence suggesting that tackling economic hardship and ensuring the satisfaction of material needs would support improved mental health outcomes. Further, given that evidence demonstrates important impacts of stress on other factors such as obesity and cognition, we argue that tackling poverty and ensuring food security would also have physical health benefits.
