Guidance needed: where should randomized studies which do not assess a health outcome be registered?

Prospective registration of clinical trials is a good scientific practice [1,2]. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) specifies that all clinical trials need to be prospectively registered in one of the clinical trial registries specified by them (primary registries of the World Health Organization International Clinical Trial Registry Platform or clinicaltrials.gov) [3,4]. When defining a clinical trial, the ICMJE is referring to the World Health Organization's definition: “any research study that prospectively assigns human participants or groups of humans to one or more health-related interventions to evaluate the effects on health outcomes” [4].
