Routine Use of Foley Catheters During Endovascular Aortic Repair Is Not Necessary

Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has proven to demonstrate as an effective, less invasive alternative to open aortic aneurysm repair with decreased 30-day mortality. Urinary catheters were routinely placed in our institution, but there has been a shift to selective placement as percutaneous EVARs became more routine. Given the increased risk of graft infection with increased urethral catheterization and development of urinary tract infection (UTI). The goal of this study was to evaluate outcomes of elective infrarenal EVAR procedures with and without UC and compare postoperative adverse urinary events.
