Assessment of the individual determinants of two fibrinolysis assays, GFC and ECLT in platelet-depleted plasma and derived euglobulin fraction respectively

Fibrinolysis plays a critical role in maintaining the balance between clot formation and dissolution. Its regulation is complex and involves a delicate interplay between several factors, as summarized in Supplementary material Fig. S1. Several laboratory methods evaluate the fibrinolytic system, but no reference and standardised in vitro assay is currently available [1,2]. The absence of a fibrinolysis assay with suitable analytical performance is of clinical importance. Indeed, many patients with a convincing history of mild bleeding disorder (MBD) show no laboratory abnormality despite extensive and repeated laboratory work-up.
