WHO says Aspartame is 'possibly carcinogenic.' What does that mean?

The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified aspartame "as possibly carcinogenic to humans" albeit without sufficient evidence; the research is a call for further investigation into its health effects, but not an immediate warning to stop consuming the sweetener completely. The limit of aspartame consumption still falls within safe levels, even if diet soda remains the method of measurement: a 150lb person would need to drink more than a dozen cans daily to exceed the daily safety limit.
