World Workshop on Oral Medicine VIII: Barriers to Research in Oral Medicine: Results from a Global Survey

Biomedical research, both clinical and laboratory-based, contributes an important role in improving human lives by understanding emerging diseases and discovering new therapies. The 2021 UNESCO Science Report revealed that between 2014 and 2018, the global rise in the number of researchers in science was three times higher than the relative increase in world population.1 The report also revealed a worldwide increase in research expenditure that outpaced global economic growth, and an associated increase in scientific publications, the highest was in the health sector.
